Reception: Recognizing The Voice.

There are many ways in which God speaks to us. The knowing we have in our gut (intuition), that soft still voice, and no peace about a certain person, place, or situation just to name a few. Although most of us know the many ways God can speak to us we long to hear from Him more clearly. Here are a three ways I have learned to Recognize The Voice.

 1. Be in range.

For example, say you're on a football field in the end zone, during a band rehearsal, and you have a friend on an opposite end screaming something to you. You can make out that they are trying to tell you, but you can not hear them. Once the instruments stop playing and you and your friend begin to walk towards each other, the closer you get to each other the better you can hear what they were trying to tell you. You couldn't hear at first because of noise that was happening at first. It is the exact same way when we are trying to hear from God. He's talking to us but we can't hear him over our busy schedule, school, work, lack of time with him, etc.
  •  The Lord's voice is heard through scripture.
  • Reconnect with Him.
  • Spend time in the word.
The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he will go ahead of them and his sheep follow him because they know His voice. But they will never follow a stranger, in fact they will run away from him because they do not recognize his voice.
John 10:3-5
And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, "this is the way, walk in it," when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left.
                    Isaiah 30:21

2.  Be tuned into the right station.

Many of us know how we used to have antennas on top of our house back in the day trying to watch television. You had to twist and turn the antenna just to get a clear picture or to get the volume to not be all fuzzy (sometimes you even put aluminum foil on the end of the antenna lol). If you don't know anything about that then I'm sure you know about listening to the radio in the car and all of a sudden static takes over the station. You turn the knob in constant search looking for a station you can audibly listen to the music.

  •  Get rid of ALL static.
  • God's Word is static free, clear, and concise. He always speaks consistent with scripture. He will never contradict it.
  • Compare what you hear to Scripture. Seek wise counsel.
Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.
           Jeremiah 33:3

Therefore we must pay close attention to what we have heard.
           Hebrews 2:1

3.  Be willing to make necessary adjustments.
  • Don't let logic try to come into play here. Logic and human reasoning can be the very reason we end up being disobedient to God's instruction.
  • Align yourself with God's word.
My sheep know my voice; I know them and they follow me.
         John 10:27
God is talking. I hope you're listening. Clean out your spiritual ears.
